Many youth are fleeing unsafe or unstable living, aging out of the foster care system or are at risk of exploitation. Mel Trotter consulted with agencies such as HQ, Arbor Circle and Covenant House Academy to identify where the community need can be filled. As a result of feedback from youth and local agencies serving youth, Mel Trotter opened the Youth Emergency Shelter (Y.E.S.) on February 15, 2016.
