Outreach & Resources

An outreach team goes out several times each week to connect and build relationships with people who are unsheltered in the community. They are offered essential needs like food, water, blankets, clothing, and showers. Additionally, unsheltered individuals are also offered transportation to the MTM shelter, other day shelters, or a familiar safe location they identify. The outreach team also helps to connect individuals to community resources, housing, employment, and obtaining vital documents.

Mobile Shower Unit

To meet the need of accessible showers to those who are unsheltered, the MTM Mobile Shower Unit is available, proactively going, via the outreach team, to various locations throughout the community. This offering provides a hot shower, change of undergarments and clothes, hygiene items and access to additional resources as requested.

Mel Trotter works with families who are homeless or anyone who is at imminent risk of homelessness in northern Kent County and beyond—including areas well beyond Grand Rapids proper. Diversion is an intensive short term case management arrangement which includes mediation and the connecting of those imminently at risk of homelessness to community resources. The goal of this intentional programming is to divert families from having to access the shelter system. The diversion specialist works directly with the area’s homeless school liaisons in connecting and providing support structures to families who are at risk of becoming homeless or are unstably housed and/or currently homeless.
