Immeasurably More Compassion

At Mel Trotter Ministries, we dare for more and we dream for more for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness

Homelessness is a season in a person’s life, but it doesn’t define who they are. We know they are made in the image of God, with value and worth. We know they deserve dignity, safety and compassion. We believe they are made for more.

Immeasurably More is a $14.9 million capital campaign for Mel Trotter Ministries that will:

Update shelter spaces that have not received significant improvements since 1967 to provide greater dignity, value and safety for our guests and reinforce the love God has for each of them.

Equip for work through paid job training and social enterprise opportunities so parents can provide a better life for their children away from homelessness.

Create more affordable housing for guests on their journey out of homelessness and help parents, children and singles discover the life God has for them out of homelessness.

Improve and enhance the ministry and case management available to every guest resulting in better stewardship of donor resources and greater impact in the lives of those we are blessed to serve.

The Need

The face of homelessness today looks drastically different from when Mel Trotter Ministries was founded in Grand Rapids over 120 years ago. Families, unaccompanied youth, and single women are now the fastest-growing segments of homelessness in our community.

Family Homelessness
Average number of families on waiting list for shelter in Kent County
Number of youth 18-24 on the streets of GR each night
Single Women
Single women being served has increased over 40%
