Myth: Homelessness is a city thing
Cedar Springs Public Schools estimates that 51 children are currently homeless in the district. These families live outside of the city of Grand Rapids and may be living in motels, cars, or bouncing from friend to friend. Homelessness may not be visible in the rural areas or suburbs, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still there.
Housing and Urban Development estimates that nearly 30% of people experiencing homelessness are outside cities.
The Mission Myth Busters series seeks to address misconceptions about homelessness and helps to bring awareness to issues people experiencing homelessness face.
