23rd Annual Thanksgiving Community Meal to serve 1,500+ in GR
Who: Mel Trotter Ministries is hosting a free meal for individuals and families experiencing homelessness as well as anyone in the greater Grand Rapids community who needs a Thanksgiving meal.
What: More than 1,500 guests are expected to attend Mel Trotter Ministries’ 23rd annual Thanksgiving Community Meal, thanks to presenting sponsor Meijer and many other generous donors. This family-style meal will be served to guests by nearly 800 volunteers. It is a no cost event and is open to everyone. The Thanksgiving meal will consist of appetizers, salad, over 1,500 lbs. of turkey, 1,260 lbs. of mashed potatoes, 50 gallons of gravy, 400 pies and many more traditional sides.
The Rapid bus is providing free bus transportation on specific routes and times. Rapid Bus Schedule Here
When: Meal prep with volunteers: Wednesday morning, November 27
Meal: Thanksgiving Day, November 28
10:00 a.m. Doors open
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. meals are served
Where: DeVos Place Convention Center, Ball Room (Free parking on-site)
How you can help: All volunteer spaces are full, but sponsorships are still needed to cover the cost of the meal. Information at www.meltrotter.org/thanksgiving.
Interviews: A Mel Trotter staff member will be available Wednesday and Thursday for interviews with volunteers, staff and guests. Please call ahead so we can best accommodate your needs.
