Several Organizations Stepping Up to Help Varying People in Need
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (March 13, 2020)- Amway and Long Road Distillers both stepped up in a mighty way last week to help Mel Trotter Ministries with an urgent tangible need: hand-sanitizer. Mel Trotter has tripled its regular daily sanitizing regimens along with putting myriad safety and hygiene measures in place to continue to keep all guests and staff safe. “The health and safety of our guests, most of whom represent a highly vulnerable population, has always been and will always be paramount to this mission,” said President and CEO Dennis Van Kampen. “The work of Mel Trotter Ministries over the last 120 years could not occur without the incredibly generous donations from our local community and faithful donor base. We are grateful to both Amway and Long Road Distillers for the large quantity of hand-sanitizer supplied to us last week,” Van Kampen said.
“Partnering with Mel Trotter during this time of great need was truly a win-win for both organizations, and one of the highlights of an otherwise dark week. Being able to provide sanitizer for their guests, employees, and professional volunteers helps us meet a need in the community at a time when their services are in high demand, said Kyle VanStrein, Long Road Distillers owner. “And, to know that some of our laid off employees were able to gain full time hours as a result of the partnership couldn’t make us happier.”
Mel Trotter Ministries began hiring temporary kitchen staff since all volunteer positions, excluding medical and safety, have ceased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those being hired are individuals in the restaurant industry—including Long Road Distillery, Jolly Pumpkin, Peppino’s, and The Gilmore Collection.
“Our community, country, and the world must come together to help one another for such a time as this,” said Van Kampen. “We are so thankful for each and every person and organization in West Michigan and beyond who has stepped up to assist in tangible ways in the midst of this crisis.”
Within the span of just ten short days, Amway started up a production line and produced more than 10,000 bottles of hand-sanitizer. “It’s something that Amway felt they had to do for the community, and that included Mel Trotter Ministries,” David Madiol, Community Relations Manager for Amway said.
