October 2 was a very special night for some guests at Mel Trotter Ministries. With help from Third Reformed Church members, MTM’s Spiritual Life Focus Group hosted another devotional celebration this year, an event that closely resembled “prom” for men and women in one of our various programs. Dressed in suits and evening gowns, the guests were given the full royal treatment to reinforce their self-esteem and show their transformation from the inside, out.
Guests sat around tables arranged in the shape of a cross with partner church members, breaking bread and building relationships, reminding us of our Lord’s promise that we would all one day sit together in brotherhood in God’s kingdom.
These events not only celebrated our guests, they aligned with the studies covered in the recent devotional series “Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life.” The events also deepened connections with the host church, helping guests see that they are loved and welcomed as church members.
To top off the festivities, each guest was photographed and treated to a framed portrait, encouraging them to continue their transformation in Christ. As always, this devotional celebration was a night to envision a life outside of homelessness and the abundant future God has in store for everyone.
