Robin and Sean's story

Robin and her stepson, Sean, are faithful volunteers. It wouldn’t be Friday in the Mel Trotter kitchen without seeing the two friendly faces in the serving line.

Sean was born with autism, which can make personal interaction with others a challenge. When Robin brought him with her to volunteer at MTM four years ago, something just clicked.

They’ve been faithful volunteers ever since.

Each week, the kitchen staff does their best to encourage Sean to open up and smile while he works. “He just loves it here,” said Pat, a member of the kitchen staff.

Sean really loves serving our guests, and they enjoy having him around. No matter your age or ability, you have the power to show the love of Jesus to our neighbors who are hungry for acceptance.

Those are the kinds of blessings that happen when you join our team of volunteers and walk hand in hand with neighbors as they overcome homelessness in West Michigan. In each new face that walks through the door, you’ll find there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Each man, woman and child is made in the image of God with unique gifts to share.

You might not be able to come every week like Sean and Robin, but your time and talents are greatly needed by our guests who are looking to connect with a friendly face.

Do you have some free time every now and then? Would you like to serve our guests and learn just how much more there is to their story? Learn more about volunteering at
