Frank’s Story
Frank was living on the streets of Grand Rapids in desperate need of support.
That is when he came by the Mobile Shower Unit hosted by Mel Trotter Ministries’ Outreach team. During his visit, the Outreach team started connecting and building a relationship with him while providing essential needs like a meal, clothing, hygiene items and community resources. The Outreach team encouraged him to meet with an onsite recovery coach through our partnership with Network 180—a mental health service provider. But Frank wasn’t quite ready to dive in. The Outreach team didn’t give up on him and told him to come back anytime he needed anything.
A few days later, Frank returned to the Mobile Shower Unit and signed up to join our Step Up recovery program. It was a proud moment for the team to see him take this step and begin working towards a new life. Soon after, they were overjoyed to see him working in the kitchen at the Mission, making and packaging meals for the team to take on Outreach. It was a full circle moment, and they were thrilled to see how far he’d come.
Later, Frank stopped the team with some exciting news: he had been hired to work on the kitchen staff that serves meals to our guests. Through collective effort and compassion, individuals like Frank can find hope, purpose, and a path toward a brighter future.
