616 Service’s Volunteer Story
616 Service is a nonprofit organization that partners with groups and businesses to create service opportunities within nonprofits that help the West Michigan community. In 2022, 616 Service began volunteering with MTM. Sam from 616 Service said, “We got involved with MTM because they are essential in serving our community’s homeless population. They are a pillar of our community.”
616 Service volunteers primarily in the kitchen, helping clean up after the dinner meal. Their two service pods, from the GVSU IPO student organization, volunteer once a month on the third and fourth Wednesday. For 616 Service, the most fulfilling part of volunteering is seeing the difference their service makes for individuals in need. Sam said, “We continue because we want to help solve some of the root causes of the problems our community faces through educated and directed volunteerism. We also want to help build a sense of purpose in people through service.”
Mel Trotter Ministries is grateful for the dedication of 616 Service and all their volunteers who help further the mission of working to bring an end to homelessness in the West Michigan community. Through their partnership, they are making lasting positive change for our neighbors in need.
