Aaron’s Story
Aaron had been experiencing homelessness and struggling with addiction for a long time. He often spent his days at a local park and spent his nights sleeping under an air conditioning unit, struggling to find food and shelter.
When our Outreach team found Aaron, they brought him a hearty meal, cold weather gear, and helped him navigate resources to start receiving his Social Security check. It was the beginning of a connection that changed Aaron’s life.
Once he started receiving his benefits, the team was able to connect him with a housing resource and Ken, a housing advocate at Mel Trotter Ministries. Aaron moved into an apartment nearby and said,
“I am very appreciative and grateful for those who have come out and helped me…I felt if I didn’t have a place to stay by next winter, I would die.”
When his drinking problem continued, our housing advocate, Ken, identified that Aaron needed treatment for his addiction. He agreed to go to a recovery program, which was very important in the long-term success of him staying housed.
Because of you, Aaron went from living and sleeping outside, where he was vulnerable to the elements, to the joy of having his own place and living in recovery. Now he can feel safe and secure with a roof over his head.
