Amy’s Story
When Amy first connected with Mel Trotter Ministries, she was experiencing homelessness and living in a motel with her three school-aged children. Each day felt uncertain. She didn’t know how she would ever find stable housing for her family. At that time, her case manager focused on sharing housing resources and programs that could help her build a new foundation.
Within 4 months, Amy had successfully secured housing—something she had long dreamed of. But just a few months later, she faced another crisis. As the main income provider for her household, Amy was forced to stop working due to a medical issue that required surgery. The weeks without income quickly turned into mounting bills and fears of losing the home they had just settled into.
Amy knew she had to find help fast. Her children needed nourishing food and a safe place to stay, but the threat of eviction was growing. When circumstances became too much to bear, she reconnected with Mel Trotter Ministries.
Amy and her case manager realized she was a strong fit for the Family Stability Program. Through this support, Amy received assistance with the arrears that had piled up. The team also helped her secure funding to cover six months of rent in advance, giving her family breathing room and the chance to rebuild. Resources, including a food box and connections to local pantries, her children would not go hungry during this difficult time, especially in the summer months when school-based meals were no longer available.
Even in those uncertain days, Amy was determined. She became one of the most engaged participants in the program and looked forward to attending the upcoming financial literacy workshop. “I want to expand my knowledge of saving money to secure a good future for my family,” she shared.
For the first time in a long time, Amy and her children were able to experience the stability of permanent housing without the daily fear of losing it all again. Today, when she sees her kids laughing and playing in their home, her heart fills with gratitude for the support that made it possible.
