David and Edie’s Volunteer Story
In the 1980s, David and Edie started their volunteer journey by dedicating their time to serving meals and leading church services at their local rescue mission. Their passion for volunteering continued when they moved to Grand Rapids in 2005. Motivated by their faith in God, they wanted to continue helping others and felt called to begin volunteering at Mel Trotter Ministries.
David and Edie have been faithful volunteers for the past 18 years. They have served in various ways such as wrapping gifts during Christmas time and serving at the annual Thanksgiving Community Meal. Now, they come and serve lunch a couple of times a month. When asked why they continue to volunteer, Edie said, “We appreciate what Mel Trotter stands for. People are so friendly to us…we just have a real heart for the poor and needy.”
They were also inspired by how God used Mel Trotter to found the Mission. Edie said, “We read the story of Mel Trotter and how he was so down and out and how he started the Mission. It is just amazing how through the years, Mel Trotter has reached thousands of people for the Lord.”
Their volunteer experiences at Mel Trotter Ministries have created lasting relationships and meaningful connections with staff and the guests they serve. As they reflect on the changes and growth they’ve witnessed over the years, they continue to find joy in serving others and being part of a community that values prayer. We appreciate their commitment to serving the Lord and demonstrating compassion to our guests. Thank you, David and Edie!
