Frank’s Story
It all started back in August of 2011 in Sacramento, California when at that time I had 7 years 5 months sobriety yet that time I had a job that required me to work 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week for 3 months at a time twice a year in the spring and the fall.
Each time it kept me from making my AA meetings and I slowly drifted away from AA and praying to God for His strength and guidance.
Well I picked up a drink and plummeted into the darkness of hell again.
In this darkness I ended up in Grand Rapids Michigan still living in the darkness of misery pain and insanity. I had lost all hope in my life and did not know any way out, just to keep drinking and living in the insanity at the gates of hell and I mean at the gates of hell.
I kept on ending up in the public inebriate room here at Mel Trotter for over three years and was always knowing I needed help but was living full of fear and was always chasing the alcohol, but one day as I was shaking and sick one of the men that worked here said to me “I am talking to you” there was no one in the PI room but me. At that time he said “why don’t you get into the program some of your drinking buddies are here in the program.
Well he was an angel sent by God because he told me that all I had to do was ask the nurses here to get me into the program here so I thought for a while and I don’t know by something gave me the courage to ask, which I assume and know today it was God. I asked the nurses here and they were so wonderful they said they would and moved me into a private room where I detoxed for 8 days before they moved me up into the program and as I transferred into the program I finally started to see a ray of hope in my life again. We started classes around 9 in the morning and ended the day with an outside AA or NA meeting that they would drive us to 7 days a week.
Once I started to see the light again in my life… what a joy!
