Paul and Nancy’s Volunteer Story
At Mel Trotter Ministries, two new faces stand out, not just for their fresh presence but for their heartfelt dedication. Paul is recently retired, and both he and Nancy wanted to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness, so they started volunteering. Despite being newcomers, with just a few weeks under their belts, their enthusiasm and commitment to service is fun to see!
Paul and Nancy volunteer each week in our art class. “We chose the art class because Nancy herself is an artist. We thought it would be a good place to start just to kind of break into things,” said Paul.
Whether it’s engaging in conversation, respecting moments of silence, or encouraging artistic expression, Nancy and Paul approach each class with open hearts and a willingness to serve wherever needed. Paul said, “We try to interact with them as much as possible, just show concern and interest in their lives and see how they are doing.”
When asked why they began volunteering, Paul said, “I think we both felt a sense of conviction from the Lord that we need to invest more of our lives into people who have needs… we should care for the marginalized part of our population that need to know the love of God, that they are his children. We just want to try to extend that love through the hands and feet of Jesus to some people here.”
Thank you, Paul and Nancy, for demonstrating compassion to our guests and making everyone in the art class feel seen, valued, and loved by God.
