Transform Lives Each and Every Month.
Right now, there are an estimated 10,000 individuals (3,300 of whom are children) experiencing homelessness in Kent County. Over the last 5 years, housing costs in Grand Rapids have skyrocketed while wages have remained the same. Without affordable housing and social support, many families are driven out of their homes and into their cars, tents, or other unsafe places.
This can happen to anyone. It happened to James after a devastating divorce. Tecca was served an eviction notice while she was in a nursing home for a broken hip. Meagan put her alcohol dependency before everything else. Charles lost his wife to cancer and couldn’t pay the overwhelming medical bills.
You can help change lives like these today. Everyone’s journey looks different and your support will help them wherever they are in life, whether it’s a hot meal, a good night’s sleep, medical care, addiction recovery, job training, secure housing, or growing in their faith, together we will be there for them.
A gift of just $25 a month can feed 10 people – that’s two families! – every month!
Join The Community, our monthly giving program, to faithfully walk alongside your neighbor every step of the way on their journey towards a brighter future.

Building On a Legacy
The Community builds on a legacy started in 1900, when a community of business leaders in Grand Rapids recognized increasing numbers of people hurting and on the streets, pooled resources and invited a young man named Mel Trotter to start a mission in their city.
For over 120 years, Mel Trotter Ministries has been a community-driven effort—with no one person, denomination, or business leading the way. Tens of thousands of volunteers and hundreds of thousands of donors spread over generations are what make Mel Trotter work.
MTM has always been a community effort, and we will only be able to continue building innovative solutions and partnerships to battle homelessness through that same community effort.
Rick signed the paperwork, was given a tour, and got handed the keys to his new place. “He is officially out of homelessness.’’
Rick* landed at MTM because he couldn’t find work in Kalamazoo despite visiting many temp agencies and being in and out of the hospital for cancer treatments. Mel Trotter staff walked with him each step of the way by scheduling and rescheduling his doctor appointments and helping him obtain all the necessary documents and income he’d need to get into permanent housing.
