When Kate, her partner, and their five children walked through the doors of Mel Trotter Ministries, they carried their belongings along with the weight of uncertainty, worry, and the hope that somewhere there was a safe place their family could stay together.
Patrick came to Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM), reeling from the impact of a job layoff that led to his eviction. With nowhere else to turn, he found safety in our shelter and enrolled in our workforce development program where he learned resume building and interviewing skills.
Jerry was used to an unsteady life, bouncing from place to place. This was until he was offered a chance to break free of this lifestyle, and through it, he learned a new way of coping and building trust.
When Amy first connected with Mel Trotter Ministries, she was experiencing homelessness and living in a motel with her three school-aged children. Each day felt uncertain. She didn’t know how she would ever find stable housing for her family.
It was a typical day at the entrance to Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM) when the staff informed Hailey that a guest had arrived named Jerome. A familiar face from the past, Jerome shared with her that he had stayed at MTM “back in the day” but had since been living in a tent in the woods, receiving support from the Outreach Team.
After years of struggling with alcoholism, Logan came to Mel Trotter Ministries searching for purpose. He was already a familiar face in our sobering center, and he felt his life was unraveling as addiction took hold.
Charlie was at a low point in his addiction when he met Hailey, our Triage Coordinator. “He would come into the Mission intoxicated, sad, angry, all the above,” she said. Regardless of his circumstances, there was always an open door for him.
Felicia’s life had recently taken an unexpected turn. As a newly single mom, she navigated many challenges for herself and her newborn. Felicia discovered Mel Trotter Ministries’ Prevention and Diversion services and enrolled in the Family Stability Program, which was the support she desperately needed. Her journey had not been easy. Complications during her pregnancy had forced her to take time off work, which led to her falling behind on rent. Without the security of paid maternity leave, she was in a difficult situation. “It was as if the world had come crashing down,” Felicia said.
Addiction to drugs, coupled with mental health issues such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, Jacob was in rough shape and felt isolated. Without meaningful relationships, he landed at Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM), where he began the program to start his journey forward.

Transforming Lives
“Mel Trotter is a great stepping stone,” says Robert*, noting that the resources he’s received combined with the positive influence of the Mel Trotter team have helped put his dream of having his own apartment within reach.
Robert
Last year, Robert lived in his car for eight months. One night he fell asleep and awoke to find himself nearly frozen. A concerned friend recommended Robert seek safe shelter at Mel Trotter Ministries. For the past few months, he has received hot, hearty meals, a warm, comfortable bed to sleep in and personalized support to help him find stability and secure affordable housing of his own.
