When a guest enters Mel Trotter Ministries for the first time, they are assessed by a Triage Staff Member to identify their needs.

What Tracks Does Mel Trotter Offer?

Employed Track

We are intentionally investing heavily in our workforce development program at Next Step of West Michigan and through the Kitchen @ 40 Cherry, providing individuals with both life and work skills that will allow them to complete training and immediately secure jobs that pay livable wages.

Along with employment opportunities, we are also building affordable home options which will help guests on their journey out of homelessness.

Fixed Income Track

Mel Trotter Ministries’ guests in this track have monthly income but are not able to live independently, for one reason or another.

These are individuals who stay here and their next step is to work with a case manager to secure a permanent housing solution that works for them.

While in this track, the guests receive a variety of resources and support. They are provided with faith-based ministry, financial management, trauma informed care, case management and have access to meals and on-site medical services.

Men's emergency shelter

Emergency Shelter Track

Mel Trotter Ministries’ guests in this track are able to access the Heartside Ministry Day Center and overnight shelter services.

Guests have access to laundry facilities, meals, medical services, and community resources.

Workforce Development Track

Mel Trotter Ministries’ guests in this track are going through Workforce Development or Momentum to gain job skills in order to move forward.

These guests have the goal to secure a livable wage job and move into the Employed Track.

These guests receive a variety of resources and support. They are provided with faith-based ministry, financial management, trauma informed care, case management and have access to meals and on-site medical services.

Recovery Track

Mel Trotter Ministries’ guests in the recovery track are recovering from substance abuse and addiction. This track is designed for adults whose primary barrier to employment and permanent housing is substance abuse. 

While on this track, the guests receive a variety of resources and support. They are provided with faith-based ministry, trauma-informed care, case management and have access to meals and on-site medical services.

Extended Support Track

Mel Trotter Ministries’ guests in the extended support track are often, but not always, chronically homeless. These individuals require extended support. They may have a fixed income but are not able to live independently.

The guests in this track receive a variety of resources and support. They are provided with faith-based ministry, financial management, trauma-informed care and have access to meals and on-site medical services.
