Get Involved at MTM

Are you, your family, church, or company looking for an opportunity to get involved in your community this fall? We’ve compiled a list of unique ways you can get involved at Mel Trotter Ministries. Join us in showing the compassion of Jesus Christ to our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Drives

Code Blue Winter Drive:

This year Mel Trotter Ministries is adopting a new term called “code blue” which describes the harshest winter conditions in Grand Rapids, when temperatures fall significantly and stay below freezing over a period of time. During this time people experiencing homelessness are in danger of hypothermia, frost bite and other cold weather-related injuries.

Events

Turkey Drop:
This year we’re celebrating our 15th annual Turkey Drop. Mel Trotter Ministries, WOOD Radio, and Celebration! Cinema partner together for an entire day devoted to collecting frozen turkeys for our neighbors in need in the greater Grand Rapids area. Our goal this year is to collect 1,500 frozen turkeys. The more we receive, the more we can provide to individuals and families who might otherwise not have a holiday turkey. Turkeys can be dropped off between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Celebration! Cinema Grand Rapids North, Celebration! Cinema Grand Rapids South, or the Mel Trotter Ministries downtown location. Unable to donate a turkey? No problem! With every $15 donated, we are able to purchase one more turkey! Click here to donate.

Thanksgiving Community Meal:
get involved at mtmJoin us on Thanksgiving at DeVos Place Convention Center for our 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Community Meal. The meal will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Join us as a Community Friend to sit and eat with guests at their tables. To learn more visit meltrotter.org/thanksgiving.

Ministry Opportunities

Friendship Ministry
Show the love of Christ by being a friend and walking alongside a guest where they are. It’s not mentoring, but it is praying, loving, supporting, and letting God be in control.

Host a game or movie night
We’re looking for churches or youth groups who want to spend an evening with our guests. Groups should be 20 people or more in size and volunteers should be 18 years or older.

Chapel Services
Join local churches at a chapel service for the guests at Mel Trotter on select Sundays at 6:30 p.m.

To learn more about any of these ministry opportunities, visit meltrotter.org/ministry.
