The winter season brings to the forefront the difficulties faced by our neighbors experiencing homelessness. With the cold temperatures, many individuals and families are left vulnerable and struggling to stay warm. However, with your support, there are ways to help make a difference in their lives. One way is to donate essential items to help meet their immediate needs.
At Mel Trotter Ministries, here are some items that are in high demand for our guests:
1. Coats, Boots and Sweatpants. As temperatures drop, warm clothing becomes essential for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Consider donating new or gently used coats, boots and sweatpants. This February, we are hosting a coat giveaway for our guests, and we are especially in need of men’s coats in sizes XL-3XL.
2. Underwear. Our stock is low in all sizes up to 4XL.
3. Hygiene Products. Personal hygiene is crucial for maintaining health and dignity. Consider donating items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and deodorant.
4. Twin Sheets. A warm and comfortable bed can make a big difference in someone’s life. Consider donating new or gently used blankets, twin sheets, and pillows.
5. Towels and Washcloths. Towels and washcloths are essential items that are often taken for granted but can be difficult for people experiencing homelessness to obtain. Having access to clean towels and washcloths can help individuals maintain their hygiene, which can have a positive impact on their physical and mental health.
Every donation, no matter how small, can have a big impact. Whether you drop off donations in person at the Mission located at 225 Commerce Ave SW or purchase items directly from our Amazon Wishlist, you are the reason we can provide hope and help to our neighbors in need.
Something as simple as a coat can bring so much hope to someone in need this winter season. By meeting the most basic needs of our neighbors through these critical items, you demonstrate the compassion of Christ and show them that they are seen, loved, and valued.
