Mel Trotter Annual Gala Focuses on Prevention to Reduce Homelessness

Grand Rapids, Mich. (Sept. 13, 2022) – Mel Trotter Ministries, the largest provider of services to people experiencing homelessness in West Michigan, will host its Season of Hope Gala on September 29, 2022 to benefit its Prevention and Diversion programs.

Members of Mel Trotter’s Prevention & Diversion team actively work with area schools to identify families who might be on the verge of homelessness and take steps to try and prevent it from happening. Through their efforts, families are able to stay in their homes and cycles of homelessness begin to be broken.

“Sometimes it’s as little as a $300 car repair that impacts a family’s budget and throws them into homelessness,” said Beth Fisher, Chief Advancement Officer at Mel Trotter Ministries. “By stepping in and stopping that cycle, it not only helps the individual and their family, but also the businesses that employ them and the community at large.”

This year’s gala will feature a keynote address from Paula Jauch, a trauma survivor, international speaker, award-winning author and podcaster. The event will be held at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids.

“Paula is an engaging speaker who takes the audience along on her journey of growing up on the streets of Las Vegas, surrounded by addiction, abuse, gang violence, and family dysfunction,” said Fisher. “She spent many years trying to get free from self-destructive behaviors and addiction and now teaches others what it takes to walk through the pain of their past.”

Jauch founded Walking Into Freedom, a nonprofit organization which aligns with her speaking, supporting those who have been affected by trauma and addiction. She also speaks about the importance of homelessness prevention and diversion.

“For many people homelessness is just a symptom of their trauma or addiction,” said Jauch. “If people can start to deal with their experiences and move past the pain, they begin to live more freely and start to rebuild their life with God by their side.”

Tickets for Season of Hope are free, but seats are limited. Go to Mel Trotter’s website to reserve yours today. To learn more about Paula Jauch, visit www.paulajauch.com.
